A federal case may point to the federal court, the U.S. Marshals Service, and possibly BOP. An immigration detainer points to ICE. Giles State Release Alerts Use NAAVI

Virginia's state-prison victim-notification service is NAAVI. VADOC states that it is not connected to local-jail VINE. A Giles defendant awaiting trial or held at NRVRJ belongs in Virginia Jail VINE. A person received into VADOC custody belongs in the state-prison path, with the general public using the VADOC locator and eligible victims using NAAVI.

NAAVI events can include transfer, advance release, actual release, death, name change, work release, escape and recapture, and parole interview or decision. After actual release, VADOC custody notifications end. A registration made in Jail VINE does not automatically migrate to NAAVI after a transfer.

Giles Release Notification Rights

Va. Code § 53.1-133.02 provides the local foundation for requested victim notice before the release or discharge of a qualifying local prisoner and permits VINE or a similar system. A community address may support the fact that someone is in the community, while an incarcerated flag points the other way. Giles VINELink Release Limits

VINELink data can lag, be absent, or contain a data-entry error. A missing result does not prove release. It may reflect spelling, identity details, a nonparticipating path, a transfer, an older record, or the wrong custody system. Search aliases and date of birth where available, then determine whether NRVRJ ever held the person.
